Moffs ov 'Acknee

from the trap on the 13th, a couple of new species - with thanks to the nice people at http://www.back-garden-moths.co.uk for ID confirmation. As my friend Laurence recently put it, moth ID-wise we're at the equivalent of the 'is it a Blue Tit or a Great Tit?' stage, but it sure is fun. I want a Buff Ermine though - there's only so much one can take of these autumn Hippolais equivalents, gimme a Bee-eater please.

however, have just done a cursory web-search and can now further appreciate our kid's conundrum of attempting to ID his catches in New England. No field guides, no half-decent web-sites, no forums to post images and questions. Pity the yank moth-er, and rejoice in England's brilliant, Robinson-like lighting of the way.

from the top -

pesky aussie invaders Light Brown Apple Moths, Pale Mottled Willow, and two of a Shuttle-shaped Dart.

P.S, Mistle Thrushes are awesome.
P.P.S, almost as awesome as american warblers, one of which I will find on St. Agnes this autumn. Just f-ing wait and see.
