Male takes off...

Red-breasted Mergansers Mergus serrator, Goosanders Mergus merganser and Hooded Mergansers Lophodytes cucullatus were all encouraged closer by encroaching ice, with New England (like old, nearly dead England) enjoying a particularly cold winter.
Also seen were Goldeneye, Bufflehead, American Black Duck, a sub-adult (third winter?) Glaucous Gull and a sub-adult (again probably a third winter) Bald Eagle.
