North of Swan Point Cemetery, Friday 13th of March.

                                               Northern Flicker

Just north of the cemetery, a small scrub woodland both toxic and urban provided a strange place to see one of our wilder raptors. Along with this female 1st winter Goshawk, Peregrine, American Kestrel and Merlin have all been seen deep within the city limits of Providence over the last couple of weeks, as well as the more common Sharp-shinned, Coopers and Red-tailed Hawks.

If you can't figure out who has posted this you are not very bright.

Moths (or lack of them)!

Have tried the moth trap twice this week with temperatures 7-9 degrees - perfect ?----- No !!! The bloody trap blew over twice in ferocious winds that got up each night , knocking bits off the light cover. However, will try again as soon as temps. improve, thanks to running repairs involving the use of about 3 miles of duck tape. (Mike)

Disney Park Cemetery, early March 2009

Winners of the 'even the Mrs got out of bed for these' prize this year goes to the furry triplets not four minutes from our Inner London abode. Ma and Pa are probably feeding them on toxic Brown Rats and discarded cans of Red Bull, so they'll hopefully grow up to be Godzilla-like monsters who take poodles and toddlers for elevensies.

With our American correspondent on a very long lunch and our East Yorks Rep resorting to leaving the county for photographic thrills and spills, we can only hope the transatlantic moth traps are choc-full o' the crappy little brown chaps before long.

female peregrine at eyrie - distant

ghostly purple sandpipers and turnstone in the brid. murk!

Sunday 1st.march :- grey and cloudy making the waders look ghostly in the Bridlington harbour gloom.
Monday 2nd.march :- a grey morning for the falcon, but a sunny afternoon for the med.gull...................maybe not as good as Marks Glaucous or Neils Ivory, but a really bonny bird all the same. (mike)

SPRING - just around the corner ??????????

Are singing skylarks and crocus beds really a sign of spring, or is it just my over-active imagination ? (mike)

Pink Sunshine (20th Feb 2009)

One of the most characterful, endearing and aesthetically beautiful species on the planet, a gregarious party of seven fed, dozed, called, preened and generally showed off for a good half hour in sunshine; we were even lucky enough to see courtship berry-exchanging and singing within a couple of metres of us.

The undoubted highlight of a good day's birding in Bedfordfordshire with Mark T (although Jack Snipe were great value, at nearby Stratton, in no small part thanks to canine assistance from Norman and Higby).
